Garden writer and Advanced Master Gardener Lorraine Ballato will lead us through a whirlwind discussion of how we can manage our home gardens in an environmentally safe manner. We’ll learn how to better manage the stresses of disease, pests, and seasonal challenges without poisoning the planet and most importantly, ourselves, the gardeners!

Win Baum, Fairfield Backyard Beekeeper, is back this year and will talk about the perils honeybees and fellow pollinators, like bats and butterflies, are facing from chemical pesticides and other man-made foes.
2:00 Worm Composting- “A Worm is the Gardener's Unpaid Helper”
Nick Mancini, Certified Master Gardener and Organic Vegetable specialist, will encourage us to compost by using worms to recycle our kitchen scraps and other organic matter. How? We’ll learn how to mix foods, regulate temperature, moisture content, drainage, pH level, and the worms will do the rest to produce super-rich soil for maximum gardening output.
3:30 Kitchen Cupboard Beauty
No need to spend tons of money on skin care! Julie Manchester of Woodsong Herbals will show us how to use commonplace food items like oatmeal and sugar to make fabulous bath & beauty products for pennies.

11:30 The Seed is Hope; the Flower is Joy!
Starting seeds doesn't have to be complicated. Kate Jamison, manager at Gilbertie’s Herb Gardens and Landscape Supply in Easton, will uncomplicated the process. Kate will do a hands-on demonstration, showing us the tricks and techniques of how to grow beautiful annuals and bountiful vegetables, and reveal which plants do better from seedlings vs. seeds!
1:00 The Seasonal Walk
Kristin Schleiter, Curator of Outdoor Gardens and Herbaceous Collections at the New York Botanical Garden will take us on a “Seasonal Walk” at the NYBG. Designed by Piet Oudolf and Jacqueline van der Kloet, the garden provides color from April through November. Kristin will explain the overall design and wonderful plant combinations that run its length.
2:30 Baking With Herbs
Use fresh herbs from your garden or kitchen window sill to enhance savory and sweet baking. Mary Cook, baker and food blogger extraordinaire, (The Sour Dough at www.breadchick.com) will bake some yummy treats for us!
